Jimmy W. A. Smith Announces the Open Hardware Conformance Standard (OHCS)

A Breakthrough in Multi-Vendor Mixed-Signal Controller Interoperability

New Milford, CT — October 2026

Electrical Engineer and Clarkson University graduate Jimmy Willard Anthony Smith today announced the release of the Open Hardware Conformance Standard (OHCS), a fully open-source, vendor-neutral specification for mixed-signal finite state controllers used in power electronics, PLC systems, and advanced microsystems.

OHCS defines a complete digital + analog control architecture — including FSM, PWM, DSP control law, ADC interface, analog conditioning, and SMPS plant modeling — along with a rigorous KPI-based certification process.

The standard includes:

  • Reference Verilog/VHDL RTL
  • DSP48-based control-law module
  • Mixed-signal Simulink model
  • MATLAB KPI analysis suite
  • Vendor onboarding kit
  • Automated GitHub Actions CI/CD conformance pipeline
  • PASS/FAIL badge system

“OHCS solves a real supply-chain problem. It gives vendors a clear, open, quantitative way to prove their controllers meet the same performance and stability requirements — whether they're building FPGAs, ASICs, SPLDs, CPLDs, GPUs, or photonic-hybrid devices.”

— Jimmy W.A. Smith, CEM · BSEE · Design Engineer III
